Welcome to our low salt diet resource!

Looking for tips for a low salt diet?  Looking for products that are low salt?  lowsalt.info has been set up for those who would like to reduce the amount of salt they consume. Salt has been identified as a factor in high blood pressure (hypertension) and this site is a useful resource for those seeking a low salt diet to help in the control of this. Others will be interested in keeping the amount of salt they consume low for general health and lifestyle reasons.

We are currently in the early stages of developing this site, and we will be developing content in the months ahead.

Helping your low salt diet

The process of identifying products that are low in salt is incredibly time consuming, and our aim is to help you identify products to help a low salt diet, as well as providing information you need to know about them and where you might find them.  We also want to provide other relevant information.  Initially lowsalt.info is aimed at consumers in the UK.

In our experience, it is often finding the basic items that contribute to a low salt diet that is frustrating.  If you have a couple of slices of toast for breakfast and a sandwich for lunch, you can easily have consumed over half of the recommended daily allowance of salt - and that is before you have even considered putting anything on your toast or in your sandwich!  Is low salt bread available?  Yes, and our products page will tell you what we have found and where you can get it!

Sometimes it is also helpful to identify items that are not main components of a meal, but which still make it difficult to keep your salt intake down.  A low salt diet can be greatly assisted by using lower salt salad cream or tomato sauce.  At one point I even discovered the salt content of the squash I was drinking was enough to push me over the limit!  By using products and brands such as the ones identified here, we hope to help you limit your sodium intake and achieve a low salt diet without having to spend hours looking at every label in the supermarket!
